Our client is a semiconductor scale-up based in the high-tech hub of Aachen (G).

The Role

We are seeking a precision-oriented finance professional to take full ownership of our financial engine. In a deeptech environment, the path from R&D to market involves complex forecasting and strategic resource allocation. You will be the bridge between our technical milestones and our financial health, ensuring our leadership team and investors have a crystal-clear view of our trajectory.

Key Responsibilities

  • Reporting & Controlling: Deliver monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports (HGB/IFRS) with high accuracy for management and VC investors.
  • Public Funding & Grant Management: Lead the financial administration of BMBF, BMWK, and EU (Horizon Europe) projects. This includes managing cost statements, Verwendungsnachweise, and ensuring audit-readiness.
  • Forecasting & Cash Flow: Develop sophisticated rolling forecasts and cash flow models that account for the long lead times and high Capex typical of the semiconductor industry.
  • Strategic Growth: Balance the timing of grant disbursements with private capital to optimize the company’s runway and prepare data rooms for future funding rounds.
  • Compliance: Interface with tax advisors and auditors to ensure full compliance within the German regulatory landscape.

What You Bring

  • Experience: 5+ years in financial controlling, ideally within a high-growth startup or a hardware-centric environment.
  • Industry IQ: A background in Semiconductors or high-tech manufacturing is highly desirable. You understand the financial nuances of silicon, from cleanroom costs to wafer fabrication.
  • Grant Expertise: Proven experience navigating the accounting rules and personnel cost rates required by German and European grant providers.
  • Mindset: You thrive in the “less is more” efficiency of a fractional role. You are hands-on, building your own models rather than just managing a team.
  • Tools & Languages: Expert-level Excel/Google Sheets and experience with modern ERPs (e.g., DATEV). Fluency in English is required; professional German is a significant advantage for local regulatory work.

Why Join Us?

  • High Impact: You aren’t just a number-cruncher; you are a strategic partner bringing foundational technology to life.
  • True Flexibility: This role is designed to be completed in less than 4 days per week, offering professional challenge without sacrificing work-life integration.
  • Innovation Hub: Work at the heart of Aachen’s technology ecosystem alongside world-class engineers.
